Why Bar Harbor?

I do like my lobster!

Lobster and location.

I’ve spent a lot of time in my imaginary Bar Harbor, the primary location for Out of Time. Why would I choose to set my novel there, when I’ve only been there once and for only about 6 hours? What inspired me was the landscape. The Atlantic, the rocky beaches, and the views from the top of Cadillac mountain … my kinda stuff.

So, why was my visit so short? It was the first stop on the east coast cruise we took with my whole family in celebration of my parents’ 50th Anniversary. We had very little time because we had to get back to the tenders that shuttled us to our cruise ship early in the afternoon, and getting my entire family moving early in the morning is pretty much impossible.

Despite our time constraint, we fit in as much as we could. We took a tour bus through Acadia National Park, crossed the harbor at low tide to Bar Island, browsed the shops along the main street and, of course, stopped to eat a lobster roll.

I’d like to go back and take more pictures, in different seasons and different times of day and maybe… just maybe… the oldest bookshop in Maine will have me come in for a book signing. Hint hint!
