There’s a lot of food in your book.

That’s a comment I received from one of the early readers of my manuscript.

There’s really no surprise how that happened. I took the “write what you know” advice seriously and I can safely say that I know food. I like to eat it, make it, read about it, learn about it and eat it. (Yes I said eat it twice.) I can confidently self-classify as a “foodie”.

Was I born this way? I’m told that as a very young child I had very little interest in eating. My nickname as a toddler was “Spider” because I was a skinny little thing with long spindly arms and legs. But this picky eater stage didn’t last long. For as long as I can remember, I’ve looked forward to every meal. I’m not only omnivorous, I actually like almost everything I’ve ever eaten.

If you’ve started reading Out of Time, you may have noticed that Maddie and Nate are both “foodie” people too. I didn’t have to do a lot of research to describe the food they prepare and consume. Most of that information was already in my head.

I’m curious to know if any of my readers have food memories that are triggered by reading about the dishes that Maddie and Nate prepare. Does anyone want any of the recipes?

Please feel free to leave a comment.
