A girl walks into a bookstore…

There’s a scene in Out of Time when Maddie and her daughter go exploring in Bar Harbor…

Both sides of the street were lined with old and irregularly shaped buildings. Most were two stories and made of wood or wood and brick. Many had bright-coloured awnings extending out over the sidewalk. Gaslamp-looking lampposts added to the old world feel of the street. The first shop we came to had a sign claiming it was the oldest bookshop in Maine.

Anne held the door open for me. “We should at least see what the oldest bookstore looks like on the inside.”

The shop had an eclectic collection of books with many selections from local writers or set in the northeast.

“I read mostly on my Kindle these days,” said Anne “but I love a good bookstore.”

I’m very excited the bookstore that inspired this scene is now carrying my book in their stores! I’m honoured and very very grateful to Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shops for the space on their store shelves.

If you’re in the area and want to see the store that inspired the scene - you can stop in to Sherman’s of Bar Harbor, 56 Main St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609 they are open 9am to 9pm, 362 days each year (not Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's Day).
